We were already moving so fast that I could hardly breathe. Of course I wouldn’t be beaten, especially by clumsy land dwellers. They were heavy and slow- even their horses tired quickly.
But they weren’t on horses this time, they were on a boat. They were in our territory now.
And I had Keelan.
Just from my thoughts, the great water horse beneath me shook his head, sending salt water spraying in all directions as we rushed forward after the small fishing vessel.
These islands were sacred, and it was against the law to cast nets here. But apparently these humans were not the law abiding type. Father would be angry, but I would not stand by and let them break our laws. Not here in the only place we were supposed to be safe.
These islands belonged to us, to the Merrow.
Again, responding to my thoughts, Keelan slowed as we neared the boat, and pawed the water. The water rippled around his hooves, sending small waves out across the water.
